Cooking Instructions

1. Thaw & Prep (The Most Important Step!)

Thaw the plant-based steaks in the refrigerator for 12-24 hours. Take them out 30 minutes before cooking to bring them to room temperature. Never thaw in the microwave, as it can cause moisture loss.

Pat the steaks very dry with paper towels. This is crucial for achieving a seared crust.

2. Seasoning

In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, maple syrup, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.

Brush the mixture evenly onto both sides of the steaks. Let them sit for 5-10 minutes.

3. Heat the Pan

Heat a heavy-bottomed skillet (cast iron is best) over medium-high heat for 1-2 minutes until it’s very hot and smoking.

Add the high-heat oil and swirl to coat the pan.

4. Sear for the Perfect Crust

Carefully place the steaks in the hot pan. You should hear a strong sizzle immediately.

Do not move them! Cook for 2-3 minutes until a deep brown, crispy crust forms on the bottom.

Flip with tongs and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side.

5. Baste and Rest

During the last minute of cooking, add the vegan butter, crushed garlic, and herbs to the pan. Tilt the pan and use a spoon to continuously baste the steaks with the melted butter for about 1 minute.

Transfer the cooked steaks to a cutting board or plate.

Key Step: Let the steaks REST for 5 minutes. This allows the internal juices to redistribute, resulting in a juicier bite.

6. Slice and Serve

Slice the steaks against the “grain” (if visible) into thick slices.

Serve immediately with your prepared sides and sauce.
